The survey gathered responses from a representative sample of 100 students enrolled across diverse higher education institutions in the UK, offering valuable insights into the consequences of teacher strikes, student satisfaction levels with feedback procedures, and the purported advantages of ai-supported marking.
Impact of Teacher Strikes
The survey disclosed that more than half (51%) of the students had experienced the repercussions of teacher strikes in 2023. Amid these disruptions, an impressive 83% of respondents opined that ai-assisted marking could have helped mitigate the negative impact of such work stoppages. This data underlines the potential role of technology in providing continuity within educational institutions during periods of instability.
Student Dissatisfaction with Existing Feedback Mechanisms
The research revealed a significant dissatisfaction amongst students (76%) regarding the speed of feedback, with merely 24% expressing contentment. Additionally, only 19% of respondents felt that current feedback mechanisms were sufficiently detailed and meaningful. This data accentuates the need for educational institutions to address these concerns and consider implementing more efficient and informative feedback processes.
Student Interest in ai-powered Solutions
Despite apprehensions concerning marking accuracy, the majority of students displayed a keen interest in ai-supported solutions for assessment and feedback. Approximately 67% of respondents expressed a preference for swifter and more elaborate feedback facilitated by ai. Moreover, an impressive 93% of students demonstrated a strong inclination towards receiving formative ai-assisted feedback prior to submitting their assignments officially.
Confidence in ai’s Capabilities
The survey findings suggest a widespread belief amongst students (84%) that ai would be capable of accurately grading assignments in the future. Furthermore, 99% of respondents acknowledged broader applications for ai within academic contexts.
